Having goals on a healthy lifestyle journey is really important to keeping you on track. It is something that I find helps me keep going in times that I find tough and when it would be easier to give up or give in to the sweet stuff. Sometimes its good to set small goals that aren’t going to take too long to achieve. Setting long term goals are great and it should be done as a final goal. But I also believe in having small goals along the way to keep you on the right track and help you feel better about yourself along the way.
When I was losing my weight around 2 years ago, the small little victories helped to perk me up whenever I was feeling down. Sometimes you want to give up and take the easy route and that is only natural, so having those little goals there to help you realise that each time you reach one you are getting that bit closer to your main goal. The main goal may seem so far away at some points but each little milestone you achieve is one step closer to getting you to where you want to be and that is so important!
- measuring your body- I started this goal when I began to lose weight. Each month I took measurements around my upper arms, thighs, waist, hips, chest. All the areas that I wanted to see changes in, I began to measure them. This helped lift my spirits so much on those days were I was feeling down because the scales didn’t tell me I had lost any weight, but you will find that even when the scales doesn’t show a change sometimes you will be an inch or two smaller in certain areas of your body and that is such a huge victory!
- Buy a size too small- If you have a bit of weight to lose that will change your dress size, having something that you used to fit into and would like to be able to wear again or buying something to work towards can really help motivate you to get into the item quicker. I used to try on the jeans I always wanted to fit every month or so and I could see each time that I was getting a step closer each time and it really helped to motivate me to keep going.
- Setting small targets– Although having an end goal can help and people may find it important, setting small goals to achieve every week or month will help you more than that goal for the end. The end goal can seem impossible to attain when you are starting or even if you are half way there. So setting small goes that aren’t as daunting will help you get there feeling more motivated the whole way though.
So they are some of my goals I like to set when I’m losing weight. I have different goals at the moment and I have a post on them coming soon but for now I hope you enjoyed this post. See you in my next one.
