This post is different to the usual health and fitness posts I post every Thursday but I thought this post was needed so I hope some of you find it helpful or interesting and enjoy…
Social media has ruined a lot of women’s perceptions of themselves and I will admit it has effected me over time too. You’re constantly left thinking, Why can’t I look like her, Why don’t I look like her or even wishing you could change things about yourself just to look like the girls that are all over your instagram feed. It’s a serious issue with women and even teens today so I’m here today to make you realise how amazing you are! You don’t need to look like those girls or anyone else and you know why? Because you are YOU and that is so amazing!
I spent years hating my body and wanting to change so much about myself. Why couldn’t I have a smaller chest, a smaller waist, thinner thighs…. Don’t get me wrong, as women we all have our days of feeling bad or not feeling confident and that’s okay too. But hating or even disliking your body and how God created you is not okay. No woman should ever be made feel that way.
We live in a world were people are only encouraging people to change themselves, to always be working on improving yourself and your body but is that really self improvement? Constantly being told that you should never be satisfied with the way you are but should always be seeking new ways to improve the way you look, is that healthy? My answer is no, by no means is that healthy or in anyway good. I’m all about being healthy and making the right choices while still enjoying life but we should not be constantly trying to find the next thing to “fix” about ourselves.
Ignoring all these things, ignoring the fact so many women have flat stomachs or crazy perky boobs and butts can be so hard when it is everywhere you look but we’ve got to! We are always being told that it’s bad to grow old, that it’s bad to get wrinkles, crow’s feet, gray hair and our skin loosing elasticity in general, so basically we are constantly being told that growing old naturally is so wrong and ugly… How did we let it slide and think it’s all okay to hear. Of course this is all just my personal opinion but when did it become so wrong to be natural and yourself in life?
We are forever left fighting our genetics, the scales, the changes we as women face in pregnancy and age, and day to day we are left fighting the reflection in the mirror focusing on everything you would like different but always ignoring the parts that you love or at least like about yourself.
People wonder why so many people suffer from eating disorders and depression but how can people not see why this is the case? The media is making everyone dislike everything about themselves. We are made feel like no one will like us if we are not like those girls on instagram or on tv or in magazines but guess what? That is the biggest lie you will here. We don’t need to be like those girls to love ourselves and the skin we are in. Those women are mainly photoshopped and even though they look as good as they do, a lot if not all of them feel bad or insecure about themselves too and you know why, because they are always trying to search for that ” self-improvement” that you are too, they want a bigger chest, or butt or thicker thighs. It just never ends no matter how you look, we are always seeking what someone else has. But believe it or not, a lot of women would love to look like you, to have all the assets that you have and they wouldn’t believe that you felt that way about them.
And as for changing something about yourself to help men like you better. Don’t, just don’t and here’s why? Different men like different things, just like us as women we are attracted to different things in men. If we all looked the same, the world wouldn’t be the way it should. You will find someone who loves you, but before you find him, you need to love yourself or at least like the reflection you see in the mirror. Believe me I know it’s hard, I’ve struggled so much with liking the skin I’m in, never mind trying to love it.
A lot of woman if not all struggle with liking themselves and the skin they’re in and when asked they simply just say that it is just part of being a woman and growing up in this world, but should it be?… As a woman, should we all have to feel this way our entire lives? Personally I don’t think so, women should be there to help each other and empower each other to help appreciate every woman out there.
So here is the truth… You don’t have to dislike your body nor should you have to. We as women have to stop the “I dislike this part and that part of my body” conversation that we all have with ourselves. We need to focus on the good to slowly begin to love the parts we have been told to hate throughout our whole lives. It’s not easy but do you want to spend the rest of your life feeling bad in your own skin and never being happy with the person you are? Maybe all we want is to feel confident, energetic and happy.
Being different is what makes you you and that is all you ever need to be, so you do you and feel amazing while doing so! Just remember that disliking your body isn’t a mandatory experience that you have to go through being a woman and you have the power to change that and forge a different path towards happiness. So why not start now, the more time you have to be happy the better!
So that’s it for today’s post, it was a little different to my usual posts but I really wanted to write it as I have been seeing so many women putting themselves and others down and I just don’t think its okay. You are amazing just the way you are and I hope that this post helped you realise that!
