College/Uni Room Decor Ideas

Hello Everyone,

So I know a lot of you are heading back to college now and will be planning on decorating your rooms to make you feel more at home. I thought it would be a good idea to share some ideas on how to decorate your rooms without changing anything around or costing you a fortune!

Fairy Lights

Fairy lights were always my go to when I was living in my college house. They would make my room feel like such a calm space where I could relax and leave the stresses of college would behind. There are so any ways to style fairy lights. My personal favourite was white fairy lights that were spread across my headboard but I really like the way they look in the picture below!

Whether they are fake or real plants, they can both make such a difference to changing the look and feel of a room. Personally I never put them in my room but I have seen people use them and I think they can look so pretty! Especially if you find there are a lot of empty dull areas in your room, adding a plant of some sort can really help a room come together.

If you live far from home, pictures of family and friends can really make a difference to making you feel more at home and comfortable. I really like the idea of hanging pictures with fairy lights as it really helps draw attention to them and I also think it looks a lot prettier than having them stuck on the wall by themselves.

Decorating by your desk

When you have a desk in your room, it can become the only area that is dull and boring, which in turn makes you never want to actually sit there and get some work done. When I was in my first year of college I had this exact problem. I would spend my time studying in bed because my desk felt too dark and dull to keep me concentrated and in the mood to work, I found that adding pictures and little ornaments to the desk really helped to add colour and make it that little bit more personal.

Have a theme

The last thing I would recommend is having a theme. This doesn’t have to be anything too drastic but having colours that work well together and complement each other can really bring a room together. Having a room that has 100 different styles and colours mixed together, is less likely to make you feel calm and collected in your personal space.
