Study Tips For Uni/College

Hello Everyone,

It’s that time of year again that all us college students dread! Exam time, but here are some tips that I’ve found helpful over the years..

Create a Study Plan

You may not stick to it 100% but you will find that it helps you organise to know what you have to learn and what you have to get done. I find that writing a plan helps me stay motivated and organised, putting it into sections per day on what I would like to have learned by the end of the day, helps me keep going to get the list ticked off and if I don’t get the chance to do everything, then it allows to know exactly what I have to do the next day to stay on top of everything. Planning is something I never used to do at the start of college but as the years went on and things got more serious, it definitely helped me stay on top of my assignments and study.

Manage Your Time

This is something that I’m honestly not the best at, I tend to study until I know it and can repeat it word for word in my head, that way I know I won’t forget it! Sometimes that takes no time at all and other times that takes a good while, it all depends how focused my brainΒ  is. What I find handy is asking my lecturer how much effort should be put in or how much time/ words should a report have, it helps give you some guidance on how long you should be spending on that task compared to other assignments that may be longer.

Take Notes

This may seen like something that everyone does and maybe it is but I know when I am behind on studying that I find that I fall behind on notes which makes me waste so much time that I could have spent studying. So making sure that I stay on top of my notes is so important as it makes studying so much easier and saves a lot of time just wasting on writing out things I have to learn.

Learn as You Go

One of the most important things is to learn as you go, and I know that it’s so hard to do, to stay on top of all your subjects after class or all at the same time can be so difficult. What I found when doing my exams last year was that I would study each chapter as we were going. I would dedicate a certain amount of time during my evenings to studying a certain topic and by the end of the week I had touched on all of my modules, I might not be caught up completely in all of them to follow studying what was taught in class that day but I would be caught up to what was taught on that chapter that week. It makes a huge difference then for when you have to go back and study it all for exams.

Try Not To Stress

There’s only so much organising and studying you can do, stressing isn’t going to help the situation. I know it’s easier said than done, but just try and stay calm. Once you’ve put in the effort you’ll be fine. I wrote a post a few weeks ago about destressing so I will link that here if you ever are stressing, I have lots of tips in it that will hopefully help.

So they are all the tips that I have on studying for college or even school exams, it applies to both really. I hope you all enjoyed it and found it useful in some way. Let me know in the comments what helps you keep on top of studying for exams. See you in my next post.

Thank you for reading,

Lauren,

x.

Yeah that definitely helps me too! I can’t study off of something that has been printed out, it has to be my own handwriting. πŸ™‚
