Juggling Full Time Work & Blogging: My Experience

Its not easy, I have to start out by stating that! I wasn’t going to make a post like this as I don’t want to come across the wrong way but I seen a lot of people talking about it on Twitter and how they applaud people that can manage both as a lot of people can’t and I completely get why!

For me, I have to keep myself motivated to come home from a 9-5 job to then site down again until 9 at night to continue working but this time working on my blog. In a honesty. I work around 12 hours a day, I don’t do this everyday but I do it probably 4 days a week which is still a lot.

So how do I manage it?

It’s a good question, as sometimes I wonder it myself! It can be drai ing and tiring to come home from work to sit at a desk and begin to work for another 4 hours or so and thats really when you realise if you like blogging as much as you thought you did. For me, I do and even though I am working 12 hour days and not getting paid for the blogging ones. I still think its so worth it. I am building my own business right from this little corner or the internet and the more work I put in the more I am seeing it grow and it ready motivates me to keep going! Not only that but it helps me to learn more about my day job as I work within social media and web so what I learn from my blog I can also put into my day to day job which is also handy!

Having A Schedule

Having a schedule is so important. I like to put two days aside where I spend 3-4 hours on my blog to get all the admin and content creation complete. Some weeks may need more and some may need less but I always try and schedule days during the week to make sure I get it all done. At the minute, I schedule Tuesday and Thursdays to be my blogging days and it’s working pretty well too! On these days, I reply to emails and do all the admin stuff, along with scheduling tweets and taking pictures for instagram to make sure its all ready for the week ahead.

The Downsides/Cons

As I was saying before, it can be so hard to keep track of time especially after a long day at work. My eyes have it the worst to be honest. As I work on social media for my job, I am constantly on the computer all day so to come home and work on a laptop for the evening can be quite difficult on my eyes, leaving my tired and more inclined to get a headache.  There are not much downsides to it other than trying to manage your social life on top of it. For me, I focus on spending the other days in the week socializing.

 Write it down

Writing stuff down that need to get done is something that I always do. I find it so much easier to keep track of everything that needs to be done for my blog in a given week, if I write them down a dn tick them off as I go. Its a much easier way of staying organised and staying on top of everything that you need o get done. That way when you think of something to do later, you won’t forget it by the time you actually sit down to do it.

So that’s pretty much how I keep on top of blogging while also having a full time job. Don’t get me wrong, some weeks can be harder than others to manage but overall these are the tips I follow to keep me on track. Let me know your thoughts in the comments and how you manage it. See you in my next post.
